Fuzz @ Thalia Hall (2/4)

Dedicated to the pursuit of chasing sick rifts, California based band Fuzz alternates and blends elements of hard, psychedelic, heavy, and acid rock. The band was founded as a side project (now turned full) when lead vocalist and Guitarist Charles Moothart asked himself the question, “how hard would it be to write a rock song?”. Luckily for Moothart, he had a natural affinity for producing blasting ensembles of distorted vocals and experimental rifts. Moothart is joined by Ty Segall on drums, and Chad Ubovich on Bass, while they all contribute vocals, for an authentic 70s style rock.

Fuzz began writing single in 7” starting with This Time I Got A Reason/Fuzz’s Fourth Dream in 2012. They released their self-titled debut album in 2013, with a heavy metal and hard rock sound. Their next album, II, released in 2015 conducted a creative process each band member wasn’t used to, that being all writing songs together. This July, Fuzz announced their next album III, releasing the first track, Returning. III is set to release this October.

The amount of energy in each chord Fuzz plays is astonishing and surreal. Their style calls to be witnessed live.

MacGregor Salmon: Transfer student from Texas A&M to Loyola University Chicago, I am a Film and Digital Media major. Though my primary study is in film, I love all things creative and want to immerse myself in all kinds of mediums. Sharing and discovering music with others has always been an important part of my relationships with others. I grew up on funk, and the first song I can remember hearing is Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder. I still have much love for funk, but I also lean towards alternative, jazz, and anything experimental as I love to hear how new artists are changing the music scene. I find myself on Soundcloud often, looking for creative new works by independent artists. I also consider myself to be a writer, I love to write creative short stories, but I also want to use my skills as a writer to further my appreciation and understanding of music, and the artists behind their work.
