Album brings solid music
British band Asking Alexandria have released their sixth studio album Like a House on Fire and it is fantastic. The vocals and instrumentation by Danny Worsnop, James Cassells, Sam Bettley, Cameron Liddell and Ben Bruce are well played because each musical note and range create a surging vibe. Worsnop fills each track with his classy and powerful voice, the guitar playing by Bruce, Liddell and Bettley is nicely done by how they play cutting edge notes and the drum playing by Cassells shakes the album with thunderous beats. Like a House on Fire not only shows how strong the band is, it also shows how much Asking Alexandria have grown through their music.
Blazing “The Violence” is a deep track that shows how powerful Worsnop’s vocals are. Throughout the whole tune, Worsnop stays on a harmonic musical flow until he has to shriek out the lyrics in high volume. The shrieking convinces listeners to feel the emotional energy while Worsnop sings and this noise contributes to the wildness of the composition. The vocals are well done on this piece and “The Violence” is a song worth hearing.
Delicate “I Don’t Need You” (featuring Grace Grundy) is a beautiful piece of work because the instrumentation shines brightly through the darkness. Throughout the track, the soft sound of the piano playing can be heard emerging from the background with tender notes and the sound blends in well with the rest of the instrumentation. The guitar playing by Bruce and Liddell fills this piece with quality notes that provide an emotional feeling of despair. Bettley’s bass guitar notes are clear, with low rumbles that can shake the speakers, and Cassells’s drumming adds more volume with his deep and balanced beats. “I Don’t Need You” is a well composed tune.
Motivating “One Turns to None” is a meaningful piece because the lyrics encourage people to become a better person for themselves. At the beginning of the song, the words “This can’t wait till another day/ I’m not settling for second place/ I got a legacy to build/ And you’re standing in my way” are rich and encourage people to achieve their goals regardless of what other people think of them. While reading the the lyrics, it sounds like Asking Alexandria are speaking from experience because they have gone through rough times and those experiences shaped them to become a better band. “One Turns to None” is a fantastic tune that can influence people to do something great with their lives.
Energetic “They Don’t Want What We Want (And They Don’t Care)” is a superb song because of the guitar playing. Bettley’s bass guitar blares with low and sharp sound, Bruce’s guitar fills the tune with sheering electricity by how each note creates a heavy and erratic sound and Liddell’s guitar notes are being played on a steady musical scale, the sound contributing to the fast tempo the rest of the band is playing. Towards the end of the song, all three guitarists change their guitar style to harmonic and it is enjoyable to hear talented guitarists play profound music. “They Don’t Want What We Want (And They Don’t Care)” is filled with crafted guitar noise.
Deep “It’s Not Me (It’s You)” is a good piece by how grungy it sounds. Worsnop’s vocals empower this composition with deep and raw noises that are filled with non-stop authority and his shouting brings the emotion of being angry to this piece. The guitar playing is on a different musical structure by how each note sounds harmonic mixed in with the sound of metal and the drumming is being played on a steady pattern that blends in with the feeling of sadness. The whole track can leave people feeling sad and angry at the same time because the band is performing music that is filled with raw emotions. “It’s Not Me (It’s You)” is a well played song that has a great kick madness.
