The Driver Era @ The Vic (2/19)

Brothers Rocky and Ross Lynch wanted to take their music to the next step, after talking on a drive to a party, they decided they would name their band after this next evolution, The Driver Era. Rocky and Ross had previously worked with others under the band name R5, and in 2018, decided to disband the band in order to move on to The Driver Era. Their music features vocals from both brothers, and mixes choral harmonies, playful lyrics, glittering guitars, and more to make evolutions in the pop genre. Each of their songs have a distinct dynamic to them, a personality all on their own, which gives The Driver Era a great formula to stay fresh, yet stylistically consistent.

Being a relatively new band, The Driver Era doesn’t have a large body of work yet, however the songs they have produced are of high quality, and care from Rocky and Ross. It all started with the release of their single Preacher Man in March of 2018. From there, they started releasing a string of singles every other month, notably Afterglow, Low, and Welcome to the End of Your Life. They compiled their singles into their first album, X, which released mid 2019. They have released five new singles outside of X, and both A Kiss and OMG Plz Don’t Come Around being popular.

The Driver Era is a refreshing look at pop music that we all need. Make sure to witness their dynamic sound live!

MacGregor Salmon: Transfer student from Texas A&M to Loyola University Chicago, I am a Film and Digital Media major. Though my primary study is in film, I love all things creative and want to immerse myself in all kinds of mediums. Sharing and discovering music with others has always been an important part of my relationships with others. I grew up on funk, and the first song I can remember hearing is Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder. I still have much love for funk, but I also lean towards alternative, jazz, and anything experimental as I love to hear how new artists are changing the music scene. I find myself on Soundcloud often, looking for creative new works by independent artists. I also consider myself to be a writer, I love to write creative short stories, but I also want to use my skills as a writer to further my appreciation and understanding of music, and the artists behind their work.
