The electronic music project Tobacco, helmed by Thomas Fec of Black Moth Super Rainbow, has released a new track “Centaur Skin” via Ghostly International. “Centaur Skin” is a hypnotic alternative dance track, with uncanny distorted vocals complemented by an infectious synth-laden dance beat, elements of glittering keys and a steady rhythm.

This latest song follows Tobacco’s release of “Hungry Eyes” and “Can’t Count On Her.” “Hungry Eyes” is a cover of the Dirty Dancing song originally performed by Eric Carmen and is envisioned as a somewhat eerie dance track with blaring electronic bass, distorted vocals and playful synth melodies. “Can’t Count On Her” is a darker song filled with deep bass recreating the sound of a revving engine at the beginning, before it speeds up into a more dance punk inspired sound.

Fec also teams up with Aesop Rock to form Malibu Ken, an alternative hip hop act that blends in Tobacco’s alternative electronica sensibilities with Aesop Rock’s rap style. The duo’s debut self-titled LP came out in January and was supported by the singles “Tuesday,” “Corn Maze” and “Acid King.” Black Moth Super Rainbow’s most recent studio album release Panic Blooms came out in 2018.

“The album stumbles on, and while every track is fairly brief, there’s no rush,” mxdwn reviewer Ivy Welsh stated. “Each song really feels like it’s own world, and there’s a sense that perhaps they don’t want to leave it just yet, with a dozy meandering captured in less than three minutes per track.”
