Oh Sees and Mr. Elevator @ Thalia Hall (9/12)

A psychedelic 2 in 1 combo with Oh Sees and Mr. Elevator! The Former is a prolific and highly active psychedelic rock band, that also encompasses genres such as art and garage punk. Starting out as an experimental outlet for lead singer/songwriter John Dwyer, over time the band graduated into a full fledged project. Oh Sees have produced a total of 22 albums! Notable one being Orc, A Weird Exits, Floating Coffin, Smote Reverser, and their most recent album Face Stabber. Oh Sees are masters of unconventional rifts, and heavy, trippy vocals, however sometimes featuring tracks that are long and filled with rich ambient sound.

Mr. Elevator, formerly known as Mr. Elevator and the Brain Hotel, in comparison with Oh Sees, ditched guitars in favor of keyboards, synthesizers, and Organs. Leader of the band Tomas Dolas, actually has ties with The Oh Sees, helming the keyboard for the band. Mr. Elevator features a likeness to light, and funky 60s psychedelic sound featured in their debut album, Nico and her Psychedelic Subconscious; Later graduating to a softer more emotional sound with their latest album, Goodbye, Blue Sky

These bands share a history of experimental, and reference to the psychedelic sounds of before, while keeping things fresh. Be sure to see them live to see how well they complement each other!

MacGregor Salmon: Transfer student from Texas A&M to Loyola University Chicago, I am a Film and Digital Media major. Though my primary study is in film, I love all things creative and want to immerse myself in all kinds of mediums. Sharing and discovering music with others has always been an important part of my relationships with others. I grew up on funk, and the first song I can remember hearing is Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder. I still have much love for funk, but I also lean towards alternative, jazz, and anything experimental as I love to hear how new artists are changing the music scene. I find myself on Soundcloud often, looking for creative new works by independent artists. I also consider myself to be a writer, I love to write creative short stories, but I also want to use my skills as a writer to further my appreciation and understanding of music, and the artists behind their work.
