Deftones, Gojira, and Poppy @ Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island (8/17)

An ensemble of metal in different forms, a triple threat, Deftones, Gojira, and Poppy have rescheduled their North American Tour for next year! Deftones is an experimental rock and alternative metal band that formed in 1988, premiering with their debut album, in 1995 Adrenaline, which showed off their loud aggressive style. Their third album,  Wbite Pony saw their transition to more of an experimental side. They have won a grammy for best metal performance, and platinum for White Pony. Their latest and 8th album, Gore, is a deeply intimate, and melancholy album.

Gojira is a French Death Metal band formed in 1996, having a penchant for lyrics centered around life, death, rebirth, and the environment. The band first began touring around France and Europe, and with the popularity of their first two debut albums, Terra Incognita and The Link, they began to tour America with other popular metal bands, gaining rapid popularity with American crowds. Their most current album Magma features a softer vocal output, as opposed to the aggressive style of most metal.

Poppy is multi-talented internet personality who gained wide notoriety with her performance art as an android. With exposure, her talent for music was discovered and she created her debut EP, Bubblebath, in 2015. Since then she has produced 3 more albums, Poppy.Computer, Am I a Girl? and I Disagree. She performs in a wide variety of styles, from electropop, to art pop, rock, and the obscure Kawaii Metal. Poppy is bursting with personality and has been involved in Art, YouTube, and other creative projects.

MacGregor Salmon: Transfer student from Texas A&M to Loyola University Chicago, I am a Film and Digital Media major. Though my primary study is in film, I love all things creative and want to immerse myself in all kinds of mediums. Sharing and discovering music with others has always been an important part of my relationships with others. I grew up on funk, and the first song I can remember hearing is Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder. I still have much love for funk, but I also lean towards alternative, jazz, and anything experimental as I love to hear how new artists are changing the music scene. I find myself on Soundcloud often, looking for creative new works by independent artists. I also consider myself to be a writer, I love to write creative short stories, but I also want to use my skills as a writer to further my appreciation and understanding of music, and the artists behind their work.
