Joywave @ The Subterranean (9/11)

Loud, powerful rifts, interwoven with electronic beats and supported by a bedrock of catchy, and sometimes hilarious lyrics, Joywave is an indie rock band that has been popular in the public eye for some years now. Joywave first hit the spotlight when the lead singer Daniel Armbuster collaborated with Big Data to write Dangerous, which was accredited as featuring Joywave. The song peaked at the top of the Billboard alternative songs charts in 2014.

Quickly after gaining much deserved attention, Joywave began to write their EP, How Do You Feel Now? Which contained the songs Tongues and Somebody New which garnered considerable popularity on the radio and YouTube. The release of their third album, Possession, came just this year on March 13, with the single Blastoffff featured in popular game Fortnite. Possession discusses themes of space travel and societal control.

Be sure to have your eardrums massaged by the dynamic sound of Joywave, and their newest album live!

MacGregor Salmon: Transfer student from Texas A&M to Loyola University Chicago, I am a Film and Digital Media major. Though my primary study is in film, I love all things creative and want to immerse myself in all kinds of mediums. Sharing and discovering music with others has always been an important part of my relationships with others. I grew up on funk, and the first song I can remember hearing is Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder. I still have much love for funk, but I also lean towards alternative, jazz, and anything experimental as I love to hear how new artists are changing the music scene. I find myself on Soundcloud often, looking for creative new works by independent artists. I also consider myself to be a writer, I love to write creative short stories, but I also want to use my skills as a writer to further my appreciation and understanding of music, and the artists behind their work.
