Wye Oak is a popular American indie rock duo that first appeared in Baltimore, Maryland. The duo is composed of Andy Stack, who is the drummer, keyboardist, and backup vocalist for the duo, and Jenn Wasner, who is lead vocalist, guitarist, and bassist. The band was first known as ‘Monarch’ when it initially formed in 2006 before changing the name to their current moniker. This name change was inspired by the state tree of their home state, Maryland. Their first album, If Children, was then released in 2007 and was then followed by The Knot in 2009. Since their sophomore album, the indie rock duo has put out four more albums and multiples singles and EPs.

Wye Oak’s sound is very distinctive, characterized by folk influences and dreamy notes. Since their most recent album, the duo has also introduced bassist William Joseph Hackney to the lineup, in order to improve their audience’s live performance experience. This new addition can be viewed by Wye Oak’s Bay Area fans in person when Wye Oak comes to San Francisco’s The Independent on their rescheduled date of July 22nd. This event is not one to be missed so catch Wye Oak at The Independent and continue to follow MXDWN for all your music updates.
