From San Diego, California, As I Lay Dying is a popular American metalcore band that was formed in 2001 by former Society’s Finest member, Tim Lambesis. Its current lineup includes Tim Lambesis, Jordan Mancino, Phil Sgrosso, Nick Hipa, and Josh Gilbert. Inspired by William Faulkner’s novel of the same name, the newly-formed group decided to take a page from that book, calling themselves As I Lay Dying. Their debut album, Beneath the Encasing of Ashes, was released in June 2001. They then released their sophomore album, Frail Words Collapse, in 2003 to moderate success. However, following Tim Lambesis’ arrest in 2013, the future of the band was uncertain.
However, since finishing his sentence, Lambesis has rejoined the band, embarking on a tour in 2019. As I Lay Dying also announced a “Shape of Fire” tour with legs in both Europe and North America, also announcing a new album of the same name as the tour. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bay Area date of the tour was postponed to March 19th in the year 2021. But this date is still not one to be missed.
