mxdwn PREMIERE: The Silver Snails Craft Dreamy, Psychedelic Pop Rock on New Song “Temple Princess”

The Silver Snails are an Italian rock band consisting of lead singer Lucas Ward and his wife Elisa Fantini. They’ve released their debut album The 7 Melodies, an LP consisting of eight songs that seeks to perfect the art of pop rock. Today we’re premiering the lyric video for one of the highlights of the album, a track called “Temple Princess.”

“‘Temple Princess’ is an ode to the dual inspirations of nature and female companion,” Ward said. “The chorus line of ‘Ma Ma Ma’ invokes the universal syllable for mother that all babies know, placing us in reverence before the divine female in various avatars: wife, mother, planet…The song has a specific time of day (dawn or predawn; coffee time) and though not intentional, we recently noted the similarity of the melody to the distant church bells which ring in the hour as we go outside to greet the day in rural Romagna, where our ‘temple’ is located.

Musically, the song ‘Temple Princess’ is rooted in three chord blues, but with non-standard form,” he said. “I wanted the harmonies to have a bluesy, Appalachian feel, with a bit of ‘church’, i.e. chorus rounds. The idea of the guitar solo was for it to represent the voice of the sun, singing as it warms the earth, and we used an electric slide guitar to get a ‘solar’ tone… I have no doubt that heavy doses of Southern rock, blues, and electric rock (e.g. Zeppelin) influenced my approach on ‘Temple Princess’.

The lyric video is intended to take the listener visually into the rural Italian setting which inspired ‘The 7 Melodies’ by showcasing many of the actual panoramas from our home and area, taken by my own hand for social media. In this way, listeners can soak up the song, as well as the imagery which inspired it. Hats off to Rob Fitzgerald at HIP Video Promo for artfully editing and animating these images and lyrics to heighten the experience.
