The Japanese experimental music outfit Boris have announced that a new album has been completed, although it does not appear to have a set title or release date as of press time. “A new album has been completed. It’s always time to act. Feeling, thinking, making decisions, and acting. Do not behave like other people. We take our own actions,” the band wrote on Instagram.
This latest project will be a follow-up to their Third Man Records studio album released last year LφVE & EVφL, which was also supported by tour last fall that kicked off last year in San Diego, California at Casbah and concluded in Los Angeles, California at the Echoplex. The band also held a bombastic performance at Psycho Vegas back in 2018, which also held performances by Tinariwen and High on Fire.
The band also debuted a 12-minute long video for “Shadow of Skull” to promote LφVE & EVφL, which followed up from the aforementioned North American tour. This visual had a plethora of cryptic religious imagery, including shots of the Virgin Mary and a ton of visuals inspired by the occult and religious symbols.
“Shadow of Skull” serves as a prime example of the group’s unique blend of experimental metal and noise music. The band’s first album came out in 1996, and they have released a total of 25 records since then.
“Revived, Boris has now released Love & Evol. While it holds up in the grand scheme of past Boris records, it’s somehow evident that it came after a potential time of creative turmoil,” mxdwn reviewer Cervante Pope explained.
