Thomas Wesley Pentz, better known by his stage name Diplo, is an American DJ, producer, and hitmaker that has achieved great success in the past decades. Born and raised in Mississippi, Diplo was greatly influenced by the Southern rap that he grew up around, a genre that would later impact his musical style. However, this interest in music expanded in college when Diplo started off as a DJ at the local radio station. After throwing parties in the area in order to play his music, Diplo launched off this local success to release several mixtapes as well as interest big-name celebrities, including M.I.A., to begin coming to these self-promoted gigs. Since then, Diplo has worked with huge names in the music industry across many genres, including Skrillex, Beyonce, G-Dragon, and more.
Diplo is also a part of many collectives, including Major Lazer, Jack Ü, and many others that have achieved remarkable success. Most recently, Diplo released an album titled Chapter 1: Snake Oil just yesterday under his moniker, Thomas Wesley. Diplo also has a long list of accolades, being a three-time Grammy Award winner, an Electronic Music Award winner, and more.
