King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, also known as one of Australia’s most iconic rock bands, was first formed in 2010 in Melbourne, Australia. Today, its lineup is composed of Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig, Joey Walker, Lucas Harwood, Michael Cavanaugh, and Eric Moore. All of the members had been close friends before the formation of the band, having gone to school in close proximity to each other and been musical buddies long before. However, a friend asking them to play a live show in need of a performer was the start of the transition from hobby to career. Their first releases were a few singles in 2010, but, eventually, the band released their first EP, Angelsea, and then their second, Willoughby’s Beach, to relative acclaim. The release of their debut album, 12 Bar Bruise, further catapulted them into the public eye.
Since then, the band has released seven more albums, even releasing five albums all over the duration of one year. The band has also released three live albums on Bandcamp to benefit the Australian fire relief. Following the COVID-19 outbreak, their appearance at Berkeley’s Greek Theatre has been postponed to October 3rd. But this event is surely not to be missed either way. Be sure to go see King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard at the Greek Theatre on October 3rd and continue to follow Mxdwn for all your music updates.
