Album Review: Oranssi Pazuzu – Mestarin kynsi

Album brings crafted music

Finnish metal band Oranssi Pazuzu is back with a new album, Mestarin kynsi and the record is filled with promising metal music. Jun-His’ vocals sound deep with sheer authority. Ikon’s, Ontto’s and Moit’s guitar playing are sharp and clear on each track. Evill’s synthesizers and organ effects add depth and character to this album. Korjack’s drum playing is steady with rhythmic beats. Mestarin kynsi is a great record filled with creativity.

“Uusi Teknokratia” is an amusing song due to how the guitar and synthesizer clash into each other to create a mystical feeling. Evill is playing basic musical notes, but at the same time the sounds of the synthesizers introduces the song by creating a spacey atmosphere. What is enjoyable is how the guitar playing creates a surge of high energy in the middle of this piece and the loudness bleeds metal music. Overall, “Uusi Teknokratia” is a delightful composition.

“llmestys” is a cool track because of Jun-His’ vocals. Toward the middle of the song, Jun-His can be heard emerging from the background with deep and demanding growls. What is noticeable on the track is how Jun-His’ shrieks are loud on a lower degree. He doesn’t have a high-pitched yelling voice, but the low grunginess of his shrieks blends in well with the dark theme. In the end, “llmestys” is a loud piece with great vocal ranges.

“Taivaan portii” is a sweet track as a result of Korjack’s drum playing. While listening, the crashing sound of thunderous drum beats fills the background with a fast musical tempo. His drumming style is amazing by how he manages to create grounded drum noise while the rest of the band continues to play on a slower tempo. If music listeners want to have their speakers vibrating with music, “Taivaan portii” is the song for them.

“Oikeamielisten sali” is a well-constructed song thanks to how Evill’s organ effect playing holds the composition together. When listening, the organ effects creates a mystical vibe of imagination at the beginning of this track and in some ways, the organ effect welcomes listeners to a world of dark illusions. Also, Evill does a great job holding the music together while the guitar playing and vocals blaze through the composition. “Oikeamielisten sali” is a strangely addictive tune.

“Kuulen ääniä maan alta” is a track with a musical vibe because of Ontto’s bass guitar playing. The deep rumbles coming from the background brings a touch of excitement to this tune. Ontto does a great job of playing a catchy vibe because of how the vibrations blend in with the rest of the musical composition. In some ways, people could find themselves tapping their foot to the righteous low beats. Ultimately, “Kuulen ääniä maan alta” is a satisfying musical piece.

Oranssi Pazuzu has done a great job with Mestarin kynsi; it is a lively album which is what people need during this pandemic.
