Win Butler of Arcade Fire has been posting updates regarding new music for the indie rock outfit, and recently posted brief instrumental clip from a recording studio. He also posted a lengthy letter on Instagram highlighting his plans for the album, stating that it will be out “eventually, not soon.”
Butler explained that he and his wife Régine Chassagne have been writing new music for the last couple of years, following the release of their 2017 studio album Everything Now. He also elaborated that the COVID-19 pandemic halted the groups plans to record, causing them to ramp up the writing process. The artist also explaiend that they currently have a song titled “Age of Anxiety,” which is set to be on the way.
“Regine and I have been writing for the last couple of years, and the band was a few months into recording new material when COVID-19 hit…We had been exploring a lot of lyrical and musical themes that feel almost eerily related to what is happening now (we actually have a song called ‘Age of Anxiety’ written a year ago for Christ’s sake – ha ha ). Needless to say, the writing has intensified, and the work is flowing out… It is challenging as ever, and with just as much purpose.”
The instrumental clip was captioned with “My rock band has a really great drummer,” with Arcade Fire tagged in the post.
The band shared a cover of “Baby Mine” from the Dumbo soundtrack last year. Arcade Fire released track titled “Peter Pan” last year, which was accompanied by a dancehall inspired music video.
