A feel-good quirky synth banger
Caroline Rose’s Superstar is a compilation of variants of underground indie music summed into one. It lays down catchy upbeat synth melodies with a splash of dreamy tones to tell the journey and hardships of becoming a celebrity.
“Nothing’s Impossible” kicks off the album with a heavy turntable like freestyle synth transitioning to dreamy synth-waves to paint Rose’s narrative of becoming a superstar with a dropping groovy café like outro.
In close comparison to that of Chazwick Bundick’s Toro y Moi, flute-like synths and rhythmic fast down-to-earth vocals grasp the muse of “Got To Go My Own Way,” a melody about taking off for fame and fortune.
If one could combine the elements of Tame Impala’s heavy chill bass lines and Of Montreal’s quirky synths and vocals into one sum you will get “Do You Think We’ll Last Forever?” Rose’s sappy quirky love song with a dropping blast finisher that is soon complemented by the slow narcotic instrumental synth-waves of “Feelings Are A Thing Of The Past.”
“Feel The Way I Want” the featured highlight track of Superstar, is the heightened median banger of the album with disco melodies and poppy synths best compared to the works of STRFKR, making it a track suited for dancing along to. The “Feel The Way I Want” music video features Rose in Hollywood, California preparing for an anticipated audition that is turned awry when she receives information that her audition is actually in Hollywood, Florida which turns into cross-country dance road trip, ending with Rose getting the part for an obscene position as she walks out the studio dressed in a comical bright red lobster costume.
“Freak Like Me” and “Pipe Dreams” are dreamy, “kickback like there’s no tomorrow,” smoke a joint, chillax tracks suitable for those looking to simply layback and head bop to the rhythmic piano riffs and soft drums or folk-like guitar strums paired with dreamy synth and repetitive drum beats.
Turn down the lights and bust out the shades and a leather jacket for “Command Z” a dark synth-wave like product with smooth low vocals drawing a comparison of sounds similar to that of TR/ST and Glass Lux.
Superstar is an overall masterful experience laced with the different bits and pieces of the wide array of the alternative/indie genre constructed into an album to narrate a theme of stardom in a sparkling quirky artistic fashion.
