New album brings new meaning
My Dying Bride are back with a new album, The Ghost of Orion. It’s an amazing album because it’s filled with harmonic metal music. The vocals are great because Aaron Stainthorpe’s voice sounds crisp on each track. The guitar playing by Andrew Craighan and Lena Abe is wonderful because the electric sounds bring emotion to the album. What is interesting about The Ghost of Orian is how the band plays instrumental music and without Stainthorpe singing the lyrics, the band does a great job playing melodic tunes. My Dying Bride did a great job with this record and fans will not be disappointed.
On The Ghost of Orion, “The Solace” shows a softer side of the band. Craighan’s guitar playing is smooth because the notes he plays are filled with pure energy. When listening, the guitar echos in the background and the vibrations can be felt through the speakers. Although “The Solace” doesn’t display metal music, the song does stand well by itself because of the electrifying guitar.
“Tired of Tears” is a good track because it displays raw emotions. While listening to the music, Stainthorpe’s vocals are stunning on this track because his voice shows how much agony he has. Also, his vocal range is amusing because he is able to use harmony while singing the lyrics. My Dying Bride uses melody to describe the song and emotions can be felt through the music when harmony is used.
The first song on the album, “Your Broken Shore,” is an intriguing song because of how the lyrics sound. While reading the lyrics, the meaning of the song can relate to those who are listening. In some instances, the lyrics are dark and filled with sadness because the emotions show how hard it can be to overcome your fears or past experiences. Also, the lyrics are about grief and how hard it is to overcome the darkness. The band excels at expressing creativity with this song.
“Outlive the Gods” is a pretty good track because of how well the band composes the music. The guitar playing is the spirit of the song, but what stands out in this musical piece is the gentle sound of the violin playing in the background. Shaun MacGowan’s violin skills are notable because he performs soft tunes that blend in well with the rest of the music; the violin playing contributes to the emotions on this track. “Outlive the Gods” is a well-played tune and fans may find themselves lost in a sweet hymn.
Another song notable sone is “Woven Shore” due to the style of instruments playing. MacGowan’s keyboard playing shimmers in the background with raw emotions. Once again the violin playing is superb because the sound brings a welcoming feeling of darkness and sadness toward the end of the song. In some ways, it does feel like “Woven Shore” tells listeners they are at the end of the album and what a beautiful ending it is.
My Dying Bride did a great job with The Ghost of Orion and the band is certainly not going anywhere anytime soon.
