Tame Impala is the psychedelic rock music project of Australian musician Kevin Parker, known for being a one-man show in recording the music and performing live with a full band. Upon the Valentine’s Day release of Tame Impala’s latest album The Slow Rush, the band will kick off a spring/summer tour starting in March on the west coast and will perform in Austin at the Erwin Center on Thursday, July 23rd. With an opening performance by indie pop artist Perfume Genius, the show is sure to be a work of art in itself.
Kevin Parker is a multi-instrumentalist, officially creating his tracks himself but while on tour, he is accompanied by Dominic Simper, Jay Watson, Cam Avery and Julien Barbagallo, who perform Parker’s instrumentals in a live setting. Tame Impala released their debut album Innerspeaker a decade ago and since then, have been creating and experimenting with sound, exploring psychedelia, hip-hop and disco rock. The Slow Rush displays just how much Parker has evolved in his musical career, throwing a bit of pop in there and making his fourth album something new and refreshing for fans to delve into. The album dives deep into the concept of time, the inevitability of change and the beauty within it.
As if that isn’t real enough, Perfume Genius’s Mike Hadreas will also be there to deliver a performance that will really get you thinking about life and the hardships that people go through on a daily basis. With delicate piano melodies mixed with glamorous rock, Hadreas tells an in-depth story of the pain people experience in the world such as discrimination and homophobia, creating an honest interpretation through poetic magic.
True artistry will be happening at the Frank Erwin Center this summer. Get your tickets now because this show will definitely sell out!
