Grey Daze Release Re-Recorded Version of “What’s in the Eye” Featuring Late Singer Chester Bennington

Grey Daze, the alternative rock band that was helmed by the late Chester Bennington during his teens, have released a re-recorded version of their track “What’s in the Eye,” featuring the late singer’s vocals. This song will be part of an upcoming album from the band, which is set to feature re-recordings of their old songs with Benngton’s vocals in tact.

“What’s in the Eye,” is a post-grunge track with anthemic choruses, catchy guitar lines and loud-soft dynamics reminiscent of acts such as early Foo Fighters and some elements of Soundgarden. Bennington’s vocals are recognizable, however they are delivered in a more grunge style than his work with Linkin Park.

“There is a depth in the lyrics on this record. Chester sings every word like he believes every single emotion attached. It’s bittersweet for me,” Grey Daze drummer Sean Dowdell explained. “There’s that big, obvious looming thing that he’s not here to share this with me. But I’m very proud in how we curated this music. We took almost three years to make this record after he passed. I think he’d be quite proud of what we did.”

Bennington joined the group when he was 15, and played in the band with the other members who were 17 years old. The band originally performed during the early 1990s, until Bennington went on to join Linkin Park, a nu metal outfit which achieved massive commercial success.

According to Grey Daze, Bennington was planning on working with group again, however the plans never came to fruition due to the singer’s death. This upcoming project was made with the permission of Bennington’s family, and was done with the “utmost care,” according to the band in a statement.

“When Talinda, Chester’s widow, and his parents, gave us their blessing to move forward with the project, we did so with the utmost care, making sure to honor his legacy as well as handle the music we had written together with the utmost care,” Grey Daze explained.
