Singer-songwriter Ryan Adams has made his first on-stage appearance since a New York Times report was published that made several allegations of sexual misconduct and emotional abuse. This performance took place at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, California, where Adams joined Jesse Malin. Adams and Malin performed a rendition of “Queen of The Underworld,” which was originally released via One Little Indian Records in 2003 on Malin’s album The Fine Art of Self Destruction. Adams served as the producer for the project, which also served as his album production debut. Images and video footage of the event can be found below.
The allegations were made against Adams by several women, most notably his ex-wife Mandy Moore and singer-songwriters Phoebe Bridgers, Liz Phair and Karen Elson. The report alleged that Adams used his position of power in the music industry to solicit sexual favors from young, up-and-coming female musicians. The report said these musicians had “described a pattern of manipulative behavior in which Adams dangled career opportunities while simultaneously pursuing female artists for sex.”
Adams has addressed these issues a couple of times since the publication of the New York Times report in February of 2019. That same month, Adams denied allegations put forward by one accuser going by a psuedonym Ava, though he admitted to making “mistakes.” That July, Adams posted tweet that marked his return to social media. In the tweet he addresses the allegations, stating “I have a lot to say. I am going to. Soon. Because the truth matters, I know who I am. What I am. It’s time people know. Past time.”
