Ozzy Osbourne Debuts Elton John Duet in Uplifting Title-Track for Upcoming Album Ordinary Man

Yes, this is happening in our lifetimes. Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince of Darkness, has joined forces with the ever-glamourous Sir Elton John for Osbourne’s latest single “Ordinary Man.” The title-track for Ozzy’s upcoming record, set for release on February 21st, is something different from the usual raucous nature of the singer’s work. “Ordinary Man” is both pensive and uplifting as warm piano notes, by Sir Elton John, introduce the song, which sees Ozzy reflecting on his long trajectory, and what he hopes he will leave behind. Elton enters in the second verse, and even his voice seems filled with a distinct intensity, a growl fitting for the rock ballad that ensues, thunderous in its median section.

Contrasting with the turbulent “Under the Graveyard,” which was Ozzy’s lead single for the new record, “Ordinary Man” shows that Ozzy is expanding his sonic palette in this latest entry, and plans to offer all few surprises. Pitchfork reports that Ozzy was pleased to work with Sir Elton as well as a whole group of known artists for the record, such as Post Malone, Slash, and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello. Ozzy approached Elton about the song during the writing process, and all appears to have meshed quite well. The upcoming record has not exactly been called a finale by the singer, but does showcase so far a reflective Osbourne both relishing in his style and thinking back on his career.

Ordinary Man should be a fitting addition to a storied career and a treat for music-lovers in general. Sir Elton John, for his part, is enjoying his recent successes, such as his Golden Globe victory for his original song “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again,” co-written with Bernie Taupin. The duet of Osbourne and John is something unexpected, but seemingly just right for both legends at this point in their careers—fans rejoice! Listen to the new track streaming below via YouTube.

UPDATE (3/12): Ozzy Osbourne has released a new video for his Elton John collaboration “Ordinary Man.” The song is from his album of the same name. In the video, clips of Ozzy’s illustrious and at time chaotic rock star life are shown over the powerful, anthemic song. It’s a must-see for any fan of the Prince of Darkness.
