Ty Segall and Brian Chippendale of Lightning Bolt Are Wasted Shirt, Announce Collaborative Album Fungus II

Singer-songwriter Ty Segall and Brian Chippendale of the noise rock duo Lightning Bolt have joined forces as a new duo titled Wasted Shirt, and will be releasing a debut album titled Fungus II, on February 28th via Famous Class Records. The band have also released a new single titled “Double The Dream,” which has an accompanying stop-motion music video directed by Somer Stampley.

“Double The Dream,” is an eclectic blend on harsh instrumentals, mixing in screamed vocals, shredding guitar sounds and blaring basslines across a steady drum beat, blending influences of noise rock and industrial music. The video features cut-out animation with a bright color pattern, showing many psychedelic visuals of skulls, fairies and light references to the occult.

“The album is exploding euphoria from start to finish. The more you play it, the better it kabongs you upside your head. Hectic doesn’t even begin to describe it,” acclaimed singer-songwriter and radio broadcaster Henry Rollins stated in a press release regarding the project. “Brian and Ty, two mere particles in the grand scheme, collide at high speed, the technicians dive for cover, the reaction is recorded. Mutation is achieved. This is Freedom Rock. Turn up the volume. Hasten your emancipation. Sonic joy awaits.”

Segall released the album First Taste last year via Drag City records, and also released decade spanning boxset titled Pigman Lives: Volume I, which contained recorded material from 2007 until 2017. He also held an intimate residency series at the Teragram Balroom in Los Angeles, California last year.
