Linda Perry of 4 Non Blondes teamed up with industrial metal legend Marilyn Manson for a live performance of his cover of Eurythmics’ classic “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” and an acoustic version of the “Dope Show.” This event took place as part of a benefit concert for The Art Of Elysium in Los Angeles, CA.
Their cover of “Sweet Dreams,” is stripped down version with Manson and Perry performing a vocal duet accompanied by a single piano and some strings. This song was originally featured on the album of the same name by Eurythmics which was originally released in 1982. It was covered by Manson in 1995, and originally appeared on his EP Smells Like Children.
The glam rock inspired track “The Dope Show,” was entirely acoustic and featured another duet from Perry and Manson on vocals. An organ, acoustic guitar and piano served as the main backing instrumentation for this performance. “The Dope Show,” originally appeared on Manson’s Mechanical Animals which was released in 1998.
The Art of Elysium was hosting the event Heaven Is Rock & Roll, a benefit show which also hosted the likes of Cheap Trick, L7, Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, Krist Novoselic, Beck and St. Vincent. Grohl and Novoselic were members of the prominent 1990s grunge band Nirvana, which Smear had played in as a touring member.
4 Non Blondes was a prominent alternative rock band which formed in the late 1980s and ran until the early 1990s. The bands only studio album Bigger, Better, Faster, More! came out in 1992.
