Jan St. Werner Announces New Album Molocular Meditation for February 2020 Release and Shares New Single “VS Cancelled” Featuring Mark E. Smith

If a dose is needed of something completely different, Jan St. Werner has got it heavy. The artist has debuted a new track titled “VS Cancelled,” which forms part of his latest EP Molocular Meditation. The song is bizarre with clanking sounds, electronics, and vocals from The Falls’ Mark E. Smith. The vocals are not ramblings as they may seem, they are, in fact, readings from a letter Domino Records sent to the band Von Sudenfed to sever their relationship during hard times, according to Pitchfork. Somewhat tragic and hilarious, the track takes on a life of its own as one pays close attention: there is much to be appreciated in Smith’s delivery of each line. Smith had been in Von Sudenfed with St. Werner and his Mouse on Mars bandmate Andi Toma, and so the emotion is quite profound.

Jan St. Werner is known for his experimental nature, and his new record promises more of that if this track is an example. The avant-garde approach is part of the appeal as the song builds in intensity, creating a hypnotizing effect with its sustained electronics toward the end of the track. By the time the swirling sounds are done, there is an echoing near-silence that punctuates the track. Molocular Meditation is set to release on February 21st of this year, and it promises to be as bizarre as it is emotional.
