65daysofstatic Release New Song “The Back of Things” from New Tempo Heavy EP

Experimental band 65daysofstatic have released a new track titled “The Back of Things,” from their new EP titled Tempo Heavy, their latest release in the year long “A Year of Wreckage,” project. This project, which saw a series of releases since its inception in May of 2019, is expected to wrap up this April.

“The Back of Things” takes an ambient style approach, with a somber piano line, tape loops and static dominating the entirely instrumental track. The glitchy sounds in the background meld well with the piano instrumentals that are evoke a strong amount of emotion, while staying true to the group’s experimental style.

Each project for their A Year of Wreckage series varies in length and tone, from more abstract and open sounds, to intense heavy breakcore sessions. Some of these songs were recorded during their  Decomposition Theory sessions, and feature different algorithmic and human compositions throughout each subsequent project.

“It is an archive of primordial 65 sound palettes, a catalogue of (computer) errors and guitar glitches, drone ambience and breakcore math insanity, bleak strategies and escape tunnels,” the group declared prior to its release.

The experimental music project began in Sheffield, England in 2001, where they first arrived on the scene and stood out due to their guitar driven instrumentals, blended with elements of IDM, an experimental form of electronic music. Their most recent album, replicr, 2019 came out last year.

This latest project has included dives into IDM with “popular beats,” cyber-inspired sounds with “Five Waves,” and multiple minute-long compositions with Miniatures.

“Since our last record in 2016 we’ve stopped caring if we’re a band or not, even though if we aren’t a band, it would be almost impossible to articulate what we actually are,” the band stated regarding their year long project.”We’ve investigated algorithmic music, tried writing music while living in different countries, played some weird shows consisting only of new material and without all of us being there. Nothing has changed, everything has changed. We are just 65, as always. ”
