Neo-classical metal band Apocalyptica have debuted a new music video for their song “En Route To Mayhem,” which will be featured on the band’s upcoming album Cell-O, which will be out January 10th, 2020 via Silver Lining Music. This new album along with the music video, will precede the band’s upcoming Spring 2020 tour with Lacuna Coil, which sees them perform across the United States during the month of May.
“En Route To Mayhem,” begins with a moody bassline, with some ambient noises and a downtempo inspired beat as the main rhythm, before it is joined by the band’s strong string sections. The song then goes into a more metal sound, with electric guitars and bass, and a drum tempo change giving it a metal edge. The music video visual shows a single violin, in a dystopian background, as it survives in the pouring rain.
“‘En Route To Mayhem’ is a journey of hedonic needs growing into greed and aggression, driving into inner mayhem and ending without satisfaction,” band member Eicca Toppinen stated in a press release. “This video underlines the fact that however we think we are in control by destroying things and life around us, life itself will take over in the end, always. We are not in control of the bigger picture, and we should be aware of it and raise our respect to life around us.”
According to band member Perttu Kivilaakso, the new album will have an environmental theme. “Cell-0 has a concept which is to challenge the listeners to question themselves and ask “Am I doing the best I can for the environment, for other beings? Is there still something I can change?”
