Pop-punk legends Blink-182 have added a third holiday song to their repertoire with “Not Another Christmas Song,” their third holiday-inspired track following their 1997 single “I Won’t Be Home for Christmas,” and “Happy Holidays, You Bastard,” released on their 2001 album Take Off Your Pants and Jacket.
This latest track brings in classic Blink-182 nostalgia, with Mark Hoppus singing about a decaying relationship, coinciding with his own nostalgic feelings regarding the holiday, Hoppus’ vocals are reminiscent of his early 2000s pop-punk work, with the band’s typical catchy riffs and breakdowns, blended in with holiday bells. Hoppus vocals are also typical Blink-182 fare with Hoppus singing “And now you’re always angry/And I’m always saying, ‘I’m sorry’/Depression’s such a lonely business/Why can’t we get divorced for Christmas?”
The band’s previous holiday songs are typically either a parody of the holiday, or a comedic take on adolescent frustrations regarding its celebration. “I Won’t Be Home for Christmas,” discusses a young man getting jaded around Christmas time, before eventually landing in jail where it is implied that he is violated by a man named Bubba. “Happy Holidays, You Bastard” discusses the struggles of an adolescent feeling angry, angsty and horny at Christmas and Labor Day.
The band recently faced some issues on their co-headlining tour with rapper Lil Wayne, who cancelled his St. Louis performance due to his issues with law enforcement. This wasn’t the only issue on the tour however, as the rapper ended performance after only spending a total of 20-minutes on stage at a show in Bristow, Virginia.
