Power Trip Stream Cover of Outburst’s “When Things Go Wrong” for Upcoming Tribute Record

Power Trip released a cover of Outburst’s “When Things Go Wrong” which starts out with heavy vocals, extremely fast drums and powerful guitar. The song will be released on the upcoming tribute record, titled Hot Shit Attitude: The Outburst Covers Record due out on January 27, 2020. The band formed back in Dallas, Texas and includes Riley Gale (vocals), Chris Ulsh (drums), Chris Whetzel (bass), Blake “Rossover” Ibanez (guitar), and Nick Stewart (guitar).

Power Trip has a harrowing, deep metal sound that is an adrenaline starter. It is easy to imagine how crowds will form while watching them live and can join in unison to thrash together while enjoying their sound. The group burst onto the metal scene with, Nightmare Logic their second album described as solid front-to-back. The track “Swing of the Axe (Executioner’s Tax),”  landed on mxdwn.com’s best songs of 2017 list at #20. Good news for metalheads who’ve been patiently awaiting the follow-up to that 2017 album, Power Trip appears to be working on a new album as we speak. They’ve shared some new music in the time since they released their last album, with “Hornet’s Nest” being released as an Adult Swim Single in 2018 and seeing an official release on all streaming platforms this week.

Power Trip will perform at Evil Beat Vol. 2 on January 11, 2020 at the South Side Ballroom in Texas along with fellow metal titans Deafheaven, Carcass, Razor, Vio-lence and more. The lineup isn’t all metal all the time; hard-rock tinged punks Sheer Mag (who’ve previously toured with Power Trip), experimental noise artist Prurient, dreamy goth-pop act Drab Majesty and sludgey rockers Torche plus Warthog, Wiccans, Red Ddeath, True Widow, Special Interest, Mil-Spec and Dresms Code are also performing at the festival.

In 2013, the band signed with the Southern Lord Records label and released their first studio album, Manifest Decimation. They have played with noteworthy metal acts like Ozzy Osbourne, Napalm Death, Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies, Lamb of God, The Damned, Danzig and many more. Lead singer, Gale talked about politically charged song “Executioner’s Tax( Swing of the Axe)” with comments such as, “If you open your eyes you’ll see we’re being controlled by our government, by big pharma, our military-industrial complex and the corporations. If you open your eyes and see that, you’ll also see that the common person is still the majority, we can change something. We can have a revolution.”

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
