Ioanna Gika delivers a melodic cover track of the Fixx’s “One Thing Leads to Another” which has an entirely different feel from the timeless 80’s track. However, now that it’s 2019 singers today have been able to completely transform the sounds of decades ago into styles of their own. Love it or not, this new track is no exception as the whispering sounds of this transcendental singer, Gika takes you on a journey with The Fixx’s sound and has weaved her own personal style into a solo, poetic sound with a piano backdrop. She stretches the vocals in a way that leaves the words falling on your ears like snowfall. When listening to the original version of The Fixx and comparing it to Gika’s there is barely any resemblance to each other’s musical style.
Perhaps the genius lyrics in the original version have something to do with it. I mean who could forget lyrics like, “The deception with tact, just what are you trying to say? You’ve got a blank face, which irritates. Communicate, pull out your party piece. You see dimensions in two. State your case with black or white. But when one little cross leads to shots, grit your teeth. You run for cover so discreet, why don’t they: Do what they say, say what you mean. One thing leads to another. You told me something wrong, I know I listen too long. But then one thing leads to another.” In a tweet, the artist states, “My cover of ‘One Thing Leads To Another’ by The Fixx is out now via @sargenthouse. I started to receive bribes of puppy footage to release this song after performing it on @StumptownABC and it っ◔◡◔)っworkedっ◔◡◔)っ.”

Gika released her solo debut album, Thalassa last April 2019 via Sargent Records. One of the songs, “Out of Focus” featured surfer Jake Caster cutting waves in an indoor wave barrel as Gika performs the song next to him. Gika said of her last album, “Thalassa is about going through change that is unwanted yet unstoppable. It is a document of the dread, the adrenaline, and the surrender in the moments when you realize the only way to survive is to brace yourself and go through.” Gika is also gearing up to hit the road with Garbage on select dates of the band’s tour.
Gika is also a member of the band IO Echo and since the solo album announcement, there has been speculation of where the status of the group lies. Her rep has stated to mxdwn that “Her focus is on the solo music for the moment.”
