Musicians React to Impeachment of President Donald Trump

Musicians from across the industry have been reacting to the impeachment of President Donald Trump by the House of Representatives, which was announced on December 18. Artists such as John Legend, Telefon Tel Aviv, The Regrettes, Primitive Race and Charlie Daniels each shared a variety of their thoughts on the announcement, and a wide array of opinions.

Legend expressed support for the House of Representative’s decision, stating that he was thankful that they performed their “constitutional duty,” in regards to the impeachment. The performer and his wife Chrissy Teigen have been vocal on their criticism of the president on social media, while Trump has similarly critiqued both of them.

Primitive Race took a more comedic approach to the announcement, sharing a picture of Trump shaking hands with former President Bill Clinton who was impeached in the late 1990s, with the caption “Reunited and impeached sounds so good.” Margo Price also kept it simple, with a sarcastic response stating “thoughts and prayers,” which is the phrase used to criticize inaction regarding gun control. Tommy Land simply stated “bye Felicia,” a popular meme taken from the 1990s comedy film Friday.

The Regrettes also vocalized support in regards to the announcement, and called the president a “baby bigot.” Despite their support, they also explained that it was unlikely that the president will get removed, but called the choice a “step in the right direction.”

Rachel Fannan discussed the upcoming election, encouraging people to vote regarding the upcoming senate seats, while pop star Katy Perry stated “don’t gloat, VOTE, 2020,” in response as well.

Neko Case was not as optimistic however, saying that she was “not even cautiously hopeful here,” encouraging people who are celebrating the impeachment to “hit it hard.” Telefon Tel Aviv however, took an extremely cynical approach to the situation, stating that Trump will not get the 2/3rds vote needed to be impeached. The Senate is currently run by Republicans, who have been adamant in their defense of the president. He also attacked centrist democrats, implying that they will likely lose a 2020 election.

Country musician Charlie Daniels attacked the impeachment process, and claimed it was an attempt by Schiff to “delegitimize,” those who voted for him. He also called the impeachment their “wet dream” and said it would become “their worst nightmare.”
