Jarvis Cocker Releases New Version of “Running The World” Featuring Kaiser Quartett to Aid Christmas #1 Campaign

Soon after announcing his support for the campaign to land his 2006 song “Running The World,” to the number one spot on the UK Billboard charts by Christmas, Jarvis Cocker has debuted new version of the track featuring Kaiser Quartett. This new track is in support of the new campaign, which is in response to the recent UK election results, which saw a major landslide victory for the conservative party.

The new version of the song, takes a more stripped down approach from the original, featuring string instrumentals and soft bells sounds, which give the track a Christmas like feel.

“So here’s the story: about a month ago the Kaiser Quartett sent me a recording of their arrangement of ‘Running the World’ and asked if I’d consider singing on it,” Cocker explained. “So I did. The song will feature on one of their upcoming record releases but — given the current campaign — we thought you might like to get a sneak preview right now.”

The song currently is reportedly ranked at number 3 on the iTunes UK streaming and download charts, number 2 on Amazon Music and number 1 on 7digital, according to recent press reports. On Spotify, there’s been a 19,182% increase of plays in the UK since last Monday, and a 1,100% increase in the US.

Proceeds from this latest release go to Shelter, a homeless charity organization. “All proceeds go to Shelter too – so it’s also doing some practical good. All being well we should have a musical Christmas pressie to share with you later today or tomorrow. It’s another way of saying thanks,” Cocker explained.
