Rapper Lupe Fiasco has announced a set of 2020 tour dates, where he will be performing his 2006 debut album Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor in full. The performer will begin these sets of album performances at the Agora Theatre Cleveland, Ohio on March 14 and will wrap up the tour at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco on April 4.
Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor was backed by the singles “Kick, Push,” “I Gotcha” and “Daydreamin,” featuring R&B singer Jill Scott. The album went on to receive four Grammy Award nominations, including the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album at the 49th Grammy Awards. While the album did not win any awards in 2007, the single “Daydreamin,” won Best Urban/Alternative Song the following year.
The rapper stated that the album title refers to the duality of human nature explaining:
“In Chicago, instead of having bodegas like in New York, the majority of the corner stores are called ‘Food and Liquors.’ The store is where everything is at, whether it be the wine-o hanging by the store, or us as kids going back and forth to the store to buy something. The ‘Food’ is the good part and the ‘Liquor’ is the bad part. I try to balance out both parts of me.”
Lupe Fiasco debuted the singles “Hey Lupe” and “Cripple” from the album Drogas Wave earlier this year. This latest project was a follow-up from the rapper’s 2017 album Drogas Light. “Drogas Wave is based on a story about a group of slaves that jumped off of a slave ship transporting them from Africa,” Lupe Fiasco explained regarding the upcoming album.
