Kirk Windstein of Crowbar Confirms He’s Rejoined Down for NOLA 25th Anniversary Tour

Kirk Windstein, a founding member of heavy metal band Crowbar, has announced he will be rejoining heavy metal supergroup, Down, for the 25th anniversary tour of their debut album NOLA, according to Revolver. The current Down lineup consists of vocalist Phil Anselmo of Pantera, guitarist Pepper Keenan of Corrosion of Conformity, bassist Pat Bruders of Goatwhore, and drummer Jimmy Bower, who has worked with multiple different acts.

Windstein recently commented that, “Phil, Pepper and Jimmy are my three of my oldest, closest friends, so this is a no-brainer for me,” when asked about rejoining the band. Windstein will be replacing guitarist Bobby Landgraf of Honky, who took over for Windstein when he first broke off from Down in 2013 to concentrate fully on Crowbar, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2014.

Crowbar was formed back in 1990 when Windstein and Bower teamed up to form a band in New Orleans. Although Windstein broke off to form Down in 2013 to focus solely on Crowbar in preparation for their 25th anniversary tour, Crowbar served an important purpose for advancing the style and sound for Windstein during his time with both bands. The band remains an important staple for modern American heavy metal, even with Windstein returning to Down.

Down will be celebrating their 25th anniversary of the release of their debut album, NOLA, this year. Read more about the band’s reunion here.

Drew Feinerman: I have just completed my senior at the University of Michigan majoring in international studies with an emphasis in political economics and development, with a minor in Chinese language and culture, and I have recently been accepted into the Berklee School of Music's masters of music business program. Although my academic interests include economics, political science, and history, I consider music to be my one true passion. Music is, and has always been, a driving force for the way I think and act every day of my life. I have been playing the tenor saxophone since the age of ten, and playing an instrument at a high level has allowed me to only further my understanding and appreciation for music. While I grew up listening to predominantly classic rock, I soon found myself gravitating toward jazz, hip-hop, funk, and other genres, as my learned to both play and analyze music as a listener. As a writer, I am able to apply my skills both as a musician and a listener, and look forward to the opportunity to being able to express my thoughts on various stories in the music industry.
