This past weekend, Kanye West performed some of his classic songs in a seasonal-themed, opera performance, according to NME. this is West’s second opera since the release of Nebuchadnezzar, which was released to mixed critical reviews.
The opera took place on a boat in Miami, as West and his crew told their version of the nativity story through Sunday Service takes of his own songs, including “Devil in a new Dress,” “Love Lockdown,” “Power,” and other of West’s older songs. Perhaps the most shocking development in the opera was the appearance of West and his performers; West and his crew dawned themselves in metallic-silver paint from head to toe for the entirety of the show, aside from a few of West’s choir members, and one of West’s performers portraying the Virgin Mary. Read more about West’s performance on Sunday here.
After the release of West’s latest album JESUS IS KING, some fans were shocked to see Kanye fully abandon the secular thematic elements that have previously dominated his music. However, West’s decision to fully embrace religion will perhaps allow him to continue to make unique music for the next coming years. Regardless, there is no denying West’s commitment to spread the word of the Lord, and make music that people will undoubtedly be drawn to in the process.
