The electrifying and bombastic sounds that emit throughout the San Diego-based progressive electronic music festival, CRSSD, is gearing up to commence their 5th anniversary next year with a plethora of recently announced new and established acts. According to a press release, the Waterfront Park event, “…celebrates its eleventh edition, with a slew of first time names, including Carl Cox, and returning faves, like recently Grammy nominated RÜFÜS DU SOL.” What makes the oceanfront venue one of the most exciting live events in the San Diego area, is that it has had a burgeoning reputation to showcase DJs and producers that have paved their own signature mark on the genre. The +21 festival also offers gourmet food vendors, craft beers and more.
The headliners creating waves and building a considerable amount of buzz for the forthcoming live CRSSD set, from March 7-8, have to be Gesaffelstein and RÜFÜS DU SOL. Gesaffelstein’s heavy French presence is at the helm of reshaping the sound of some of the most influential contemporary musical acts that are already well established household names. A previously stated in the aforementioned press release, “…the producer has helped reshape the sound of modern pop, collaborating with the likes of The Weeknd, Kanye West, A$AP Rocky, Pharell Williams and Daft Punk. Ever dramatic, Gesaffelstein’s singular and expansive sound is hard to pin down, it’s broody, it’s punk and it’s unquestionably cool.”
RÜFÜS DU SOL has come along from their humble beginning of playing in small intimate club gigs to selling out arenas. The group’s “…last CRSSD performance was a watershed moment for the band, drawing one of Ocean View’s biggest crowds. 2018’s Solace, was their most ambitious album yet, and saw the live three piece earn two Grammy nominations this year.” CRSSD’s already stacked lineup also includes such names as “…Paris Grey’s collaborative project Inner City, the OVO signed pair Madjid Jordan, American dance-rockers The Rapture, Belgian powerhouse pioneers Soulwax, Israeli techno punk upstarts Red Axes, rapidly rising star Pluko, and the dramatic pop of Evan Giia and iconic downtempo act Télépopmusik.”
The well rounded event boasts three waterfront stages that come complete with picturesque sunsets among a grassy resting area. The press release furthers that, “A first time performance from the iconic Carl Cox anchors the stage. Belgium’s Charlotte de Witte returns, along with London born Dax J. Exploring more melodic sound palettes will be the legendary progressive duo Hernan Cattaneo B2B Nick Warren and Ben Böhmer live. While Monki, I Hate Models, Radio Slave, Lee K and Kudeki round out the stage’s techno representation.”
