New album provides unique music
German and Swedish industrial metal duo Lindemann has been around the music scene for a couple of years. Vocalist Till Lindemann and instrumentalist Peter Tägtgren are life long friends and in 2013 both men decided to start collaborating their musical styles together to create metal music. In 2015 Lindemann released their debut single titled “Praise Abort” and later on in the same year the duo released their debut album titled Skills in Pills. In 2018 Lindemann and Tägtgren made music for the adaption of the play “Hansel and Gretel” and Lindemann performed in the play as well. Earlier this year the duo released the first single off their new album titled “Steh Auf.” And then in November, the duo released their latest record titled F&M.
This record is rather unique because when listening, the merge of Lindemann’s and Tägtgren’s musical styles creates a unique form of metal music. For some who may not know, before the duo started to collaborate musically with each other, Lindemann was a vocalist for the band Rammstein and Tägtgren was an instrumentalist for the bands Hypocrisy and Pain. When the music styles from both men merge together, it creates the metal sound that fans and listeners want to hear. Lindemann’s vocals on F&M are great because his vocals are pure with great authority and they contribute to the raw energy on the album. Tägtgren’s musical skills are awesome on F&M because he is able to provide the madness of energy on the album. His drumming and guitar skills are filled with raw sounds which can cause listeners to bang their heads or dance to the music.
On F&M there is a song titled “Blut” and what stands out on this song is how well the musical structure is composed. The song starts off with a soft rumble sound coming from the bass guitar and the sounds coming from the bass invites listeners to a dark atmosphere. After a full minute of soft music, a surprising burst of metal music comes blaring through the speakers and the energy from the metal music is absolutely amazing. Tägtgren is a talented musician because his drum and guitar skills shine on this record by playing low and high musical notes, adding the excitement on this track. Lindemann’s vocals are great on this track as well because he does a great job harmonizing each lyric of the song with his strong and authoritative voice. Overall, a fantastic song and “Blut” does offer a unique style of metal music.
Also on the record, there is a song titled “Ach So Gern” and what is seemingly interesting about this song is how unique it is for an industrial metal band to be creating a song that displays the traditional sounds of German and Swedish music. When listening to the song, it is amusing how Tägtgren used traditional instruments to help create the authentic sound of German and Swedish music and in some ways, the sound of the accordion in the background can give fans and listeners a taste of what cultural music sounds like. Again, this song shows how talented Tägtgren is because he is able to blend in suave non-metal music while Lindemann croons out the lyrics of the song. It was enjoyable to hear the vocal pitches. The drums, guitar and accordion are being played on low tempos and guitar notes. Lindemann’s vocals are great on this track because in most ways he is displaying what a traditional German and Swedish singer sounds like which is crooning out the lyrics of the song. In some ways, the duo wants to show fans and listeners how they are capable of creating music which won’t cause their hearts to skip a beat and it does seem the duo wants to show people they are capable of creating a unique musical style. Overall, this song is fantastic because it will not only surprise the fans and listeners, it will teach them the authentic side of German and Swedish music.
Finally, the song titled “Schalf” is a unique track because the song has nothing to do with metal or traditional German and Swedish music. What sets this song apart from the rest of the songs on the album is the sound of the piano that adds emotion to the song. When listening, Tägtgren does a great job of creating outstanding melodic piano sounds because the sounds are being played on a slow musical tempo in a beautiful way. Lindemann’s vocals are wonderful on this track because instead of singing in a raw and authoritative sound, he is able to sing in a harmonic and melodic way. The way Lindemann sings is soulful because he is singing in pure desperation. Also when listening to the song, Tägtgren can be heard in the background singing in a low, deep and soulful voice. Both Tägtgren’s and Lindemann’s vocals sound great together because the duo is able to create different harmonies that turn into a pure melody. Overall, this song is beautiful because of the unique style of the piano and vocals. Surely it will be interesting to hear what fans and listeners think about this song and in some ways, this track could very well surprise people by showing them how unique Lindemann is.
F&M is truly a great record which is filled with metal, traditional and ballad music. Next year Lindemann will be going on tour and perhaps the music on F&M will sound even better live.
