Dan Snaith Announces First New Caribou Album in Over 5 Years Titled Suddenly for February 2020 Release

Dan Snaith, the musical mastermind behind the electronic music project Caribou has announced the first new Caribou album in five years entitled Suddenly, which is set to be released on February 28, via Merge/City Slang Records. The producer has also released a new song entitled “You and I,” in addition to this latest album announcement.

“You and I” takes an experimental approach to indie electronica, beginning with a steady drum beat and upbeat synth lines before the vocals come in. The vocals begin with a gentle delivery at first, before they start veering off into more experimental territory with distortion and vocal overlays.

“‘You and I’ was one of the first tracks on the album that I started, and one of the last tracks I finished; it existed in some form or other throughout the whole arc of making the record,” Snaith said in a statement to Pitchfork. “It also captures a lot of what the record, and the title of the album, are about—the track changes suddenly and unpredictably, and it is about a change in my life that happened out of the blue.”

Snaith released the first new Caribou track in five years entitled “Home,” back in October. This latest track takes a 1970s inspired sound, sampling from various elements of classic disco, funk and soul, creating an eclectic sound similar to the early work of groups such as The Avalanches.

Caribou will be performing at The All Points East festival, which will also host the likes of Tame Impala and Holy Fuck.
