Ed O’Brien of Radiohead Writes Letter Detailing Upcoming Solo Album Featuring Laura Marling, Adrian Utley of Portishead and Colin Greenwood

Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien recently posted a hand written letter on his Instagram announcing the release of his upcoming solo album in 2020, according to Billboard. O’Brien’s letter was addressed to the “sisters and brothers of the Radiohead family,” and mentions collaborations with Laura Marling, Adrian Utley, and Colin Greenwood, among others.

Although O’Brien has flourished as the guitarist of Radiohead, he has yet to release a solo studio album. There is no doubt that fans of Radiohead have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of a solo album from O’Brien, and they will get their first chance to hear his work as a solo artist very soon. The first single of the album, “Brasil,” is set to be released this upcoming Thursday, December 5th. The single will most likely be a reflection of O’Brien’s time living in Brazil with his family following Radiohead’s The King of Limbs tour in 2012.

It has been some time since Radiohead released a studio album; although they released tapes of their OK Computer recording sessions in 2017, their last official studio album was back in 2016. Fans will undoubtedly be eagerly awaiting the release of O’Brien’s upcoming album.

Drew Feinerman: I have just completed my senior at the University of Michigan majoring in international studies with an emphasis in political economics and development, with a minor in Chinese language and culture, and I have recently been accepted into the Berklee School of Music's masters of music business program. Although my academic interests include economics, political science, and history, I consider music to be my one true passion. Music is, and has always been, a driving force for the way I think and act every day of my life. I have been playing the tenor saxophone since the age of ten, and playing an instrument at a high level has allowed me to only further my understanding and appreciation for music. While I grew up listening to predominantly classic rock, I soon found myself gravitating toward jazz, hip-hop, funk, and other genres, as my learned to both play and analyze music as a listener. As a writer, I am able to apply my skills both as a musician and a listener, and look forward to the opportunity to being able to express my thoughts on various stories in the music industry.
