Punk rock band SWMRS recently cancelled their remaining 2019 tour dates following a van crash that injured band the band’s guitarist Max Becker, along with touring members Natalie Somekh and Josh Berl. The band recently announced that Becker had finished the rehabilitation program he had entered after the crash, and announced that he was returned home on November 27th.
“We are so happy to update you that Max is pushing through rehab with more strength every day and staying hydrated,” the band stated on Twitter on November 26. “Tomorrow we are so lucky to bring him home and have him continue his healing from his bed in Oakland.”
Following the crash, the band’s drummer and Green Day frontman Bille Joe Armstrong’s son Joey Armstrong provided an update on Somekh and Berl’s recovery, stating that both were ready to return home. Becker however, was placed for a longer term in the ICU prior to entering a rehabilitation program.
“We really can’t describe how special all of your support has been,” the band continued in their post. “This Thanksgiving please hug the people around you and let them know how much you love them.”
The band debuted their album Berkeley’s On Fire earlier this year. “Overall, SWMRS has a real gem with Berkeley’s On Fire. From start to finish they display high levels of creativity, diversity and overall dynamics in their songwriting,” mxdwn reviewer Ben Chambers explained. “The nuanced songwriting and impressive individualism displayed here shows that SWMRS live up to the hype around their name. They have the potential to be a truly phenomenal band.”
