Singer-songwriter Christopher Smith goes by the moniker Dralms, creating atmosheric, soft-as-velvet pop music. Today we’re premiering the latest song from his second full-length album, a track called “Gracious Host.” It’s based around glitchy, dub-influenced electronics, with his angelic voice warped and distorted with echoing, chopping and layering, creating a psychedelic journey.
“‘Why would you roam, unless to be homesick?”Gracious Host’ speaks of the bond that the prospect of a severance can bring,” said Smith. “How knowing you are going to lose someone or something only brings you closer.”
Love Writes Itself is the follow up to the debut Dralms record, Shook, which was released in 2015. Smith is joined on the album by violinist Jesse Zubot (Tanya Tagaq, Destroyer, Stars), bassist Ben Browning (Cut Copy), Juno-winning drummer Kenton Loewen, giving the record an emotionally-deep feeling with their astute playing abilities.
The new record was created over the course of three years, with the earliest beginnings coming while Smith was on the road supporting his debut LP. Later, he worked on the album during a trip to the British Columbia Gulf Islands,
