Musician and Hole frontwoman Courtney Love has debuted her first track in four years entitled “Mother,” from the new soundtrack for the upcoming 2020 film The Turning. This upcoming soundtrack is set to host other notable performers including Mitski, Soccer Mommy, Warpaint, Cherry Glazerr, Kali Uchis, Alice Glass and Kim Gordon.
“Mother,” hosts a plethora of 1990s callbacks, with Love’s strong vocal performance, catchy guitar lines, and steady drum and bass lines that recall her alternative rock work. The opening of the track begins with steady guitar chords, which slowly build up to its conclusion, with the drums slightly speeding up the tracks tempo until its conclusion.
“I read The Turn of the Screw as a kid, so it’s a genuine privilege to have had the opportunity to work with the genius that is Floria Sigismondi and Lawrence Rothman on this soundtrack – especially as I’m alongside so many other fantastic female artists I respect,” Love explained regarding the soundtrack. “I’ve long admired her work, particularly The Runaways and the Marilyn Manson videos. Floria and Lawrence had a clear vision on what they wanted to achieve and it was an honor to be invited into their studio and to become a part of it.”
“Mother,” is her first release following her 2015 singles “Honour” (with Ginger Wildheart), “Miss Narcissist” add “Killer Radio.” Love made several posts on social media earlier this year indicating that Hole may host a reunion some time in the future. The band was originally intended to reunite back in 2014, however Love called off the reunion, saying she wanted it be more spontaneous, and hinted at her desire to record more music.
