Modest Mouse just released a new video for “Ice Cream Party” which is a delightful and colorful video filled with visuals of ice cream, balloon making and fun creativity. The song begins with a slow and mesmerizing vibe with the colors of rainbow sherbet before the vocals break in with “There’s an ice cream party at my house. An ice cream party at my house, please come over.” A woman appears and the frame is broken into what looks like a kaleidoscope visual while an ice cream melts in the background and various colors like lavender, lime green and pinks morph the screen. The visual not only makes you want to eat ice cream but also enlightens the senses with light fun, while cascades of lemon yellow and vanilla cream with confetti sprinkles are sprinkled near pink elephants on the screen. The video was directed by Dylan Odbert and Isaac Brock
Modest Mouse also released new songs “Poison the Well” and “I’m Still Here” this year. The songs are from their album, triangle 7’’s and the first songs released by the band in four years. “I’m Still Here” is described as a fun quick piece with a strong drum beat and a strong electric guitar. It is more hard fast rock than their past pieces of dreamy slow indie vibes.
The band’s last album was 2015’s Strangers to Ourselves. Currently, Modest Mouse is on tour with The Black Keys and have upcoming US shows in December 2019.
The name Modest Mouse is derived from a passage from the Virginia Woolf story “The Mark on the Wall”, which reads, “I wish I could hit upon a pleasant track of thought, a track indirectly reflecting credit upon myself, for those are the pleasantest thoughts, and very frequent even in the minds of modest mouse-coloured people, who believe genuinely that they dislike to hear their own praises.”
During his teenage years Brock worked at a local family video store outside Seattle when he met bassist Eric Judy. Brock and Judy met drummer Jeremiah Green at a heavy metal show when they decided to make music together. In 1994, at Calvin Johnson’s Dub Narcotic Studios, Modest Mouse recorded its first EP, Blue Cadet-3, Do You Connect?, which was released by K Records.
