Lauryn Hill continues to be Queen. She spent many years with the band known as the Fugees gaining traction and notice. But when she went off as a soloist, she  reached greater heights with age and time. She is internationally knows as a Grammy winning artist, which included Album of the Year, as well as Best New Artist. Hill has shared her new song “Guarding the Gates” from her new Queen & Slim: The Soundtrack, and it is amazing. The Queen & Slim: The Soundtrack album includes songs that feature artist’s Vince Staples, Megan Thee Stallion, and Blood Orange and many more.

We live in an age of a watchful eye. The new song “Guarding the Gates” addresses the dark nature behind our technological advances and how society has changed its view on what love is. With the inventions of the like and love buttons on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram there has been a reinvention of what love is. “Guarding the Gates” is a six minute exploration of Hill sharing her heart with her fans. She is, “Guarding [her] Gates,” in order to protect herself from technology infringing on her real love and self love.

Overall this song has a badass vernacular tone to it that is reminiscent of her old school R&B vibe.

Listen and vibe out to the song below.

Amber Flynn: Nothing beats writing. I'm from the town of Thousand Oaks, fighting for my dream. Traveling the world, and living in tough situations broadened the horizon for my thinking. I started my education after public high school at an Adult School. I wanted to receive my certificate in Physical Therapy. Eventually, I received my certificate and it motivated me to want to help more that just an individual. Continuing my education at Moorpark College, opened my eyes to the possibility of a career in Literary Arts. After receiving my Associates Degree in English, I sent out applications to many colleges. After being accepted to ALL of the colleges I applied to, I had to make a decision. I am now a student at Loyola Marymount University, and I also work part time at a Law Firm editing legal documents.
