Last month we got the first official list of showcasing artists for next year’s SXSW Music Festival and today we get another round. This second round of showcasing artists includes over 200 performers that will descend upon Austin, Texas on March 16-22, 2020 for the 34th annual festival. The first wave of artists included well-known acts like Kristin Hersh, The Frights, Margaret Glaspy, The Waco Brothers and more alongside dozens of up-and-coming acts from across the globe.
The biggest name in today’s announcement is without a doubt the massively influential British art-punk band Wire, who have a new album coming out in 2020. Nasty Cherry, the all-girl alternative pop group formed with the help of Charli XCX and featuring Chloe Chaidez of Kitten and the former drummer for Charli XCX’s band Debbie Knox-Hewson, will be performing. Also headed out to Austin to showcase some new material is Frances Quinlan, the frontwomen for beloved indie pop group Hop Along. She just announced her first solo material under her own name (Hop Along essentially began as her solo project before becoming a full band).
Other better-known artists that will be performing include indie singer-songwriter Anna Burch, exciting new LA-based post-punk band Automatic, Canadian singer-songwriter Basia Bulat, Philadelphia hardcore band Control Top, lo-fi post-punks Dehd, delicate indie-pop performer Dog in the Snow, alternative rock group Iguana Death Cult, British indie band LIFE, Sub Pop post-punk band Moaning, alternative pop singer Madame Gandhi, dreamy female-fronted alternative rock band Moving Panoramas, Japanese punk rockers Okotobe Beaver, goth-tinged rock band Russian Baths, Australian indie rock artist Sarah Mary Chadwick, Swedish punks ShitKid, indie pop artist Sui Zhen and Korean pop group Tengerr.
