Chris Baio and Fort Romeau of Vampire Weekend Debut New Duo C.Y.M. and Announce EP for November 2019 Release

There have been many facets to New York-based indie rock band Vampire Weekend, as of late. Just this past Wednesday, November 6 it was announced that Vampire Weekend bassist Chris Baio and producer/DJ Mike Greene (aka Fort Romeau) have teamed up creating a duo under the name C.Y.M.. According to Pitchfork, the newly formed duo C.Y.M. made up of “Baio and Greene are releasing their self-titled debut EP on Friday, November 15, via Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound label.” Vampire Weekend’s last full length album release was the band’s fourth studio album Father of the Bride, which also marked their major label debut on Columbia Records, released earlier this year.

Baio has already been making a name for himself, branching out on his own burgeoning solo career. As previously reported in Pitchfork, “Baio has released two solo full-lengths: 2015’s The Names and 2017’s Man of the World. In other Baio news, he recently launched a podcast for The Ringer with his Vampire Weekend bandmate Chris Tomson called “The Road Taken With CT and Baio.” Already busy with work outside of music, Baio has been active in other mediums such as podcasting, so for C.Y.M to emerge is just another notch under the bassist’s belt.

As for Greene, he has also been branching out on his own working on a solo project and presenting it as of late. The Pitchfork article concludes that Greene, under his Fort Romeau alias, released his 4-track project “This past February, Mike Greene shared his Fort Romeau project Heaven & Earth.” Recently, Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig sat down to discuss the lengthy gap between the band’s third and fourth studio albums and the many revisions the band would go through. As previously reported here on mxdwn “During the six-year gap between Modern Vampires of the City and their newest album, Father of the Bride, Koenig said they spent countless hours in the studio going through hundreds of versions of the songs, adding instruments and changing lyrics each time. He also said that sometimes the final product would have a lyric from version one and a guitar riff from version one hundred and fifty.”

The track listing for the forthcoming self-titled C.Y.M. EP is as follows:
