Kanye West’s New Video For “Follow God” Stars His Father

Kanye West is back at it again with another banger. Just under an hour ago West released his newest music video for the song “Follow God.” Believe it or not, this video features West and his Father enjoying the outdoors and sharing family memories with the world. The beginning of the video presents the idea that Kanye’s father used to tell his children to walk in his footsteps in the snow in order to safely make passage through unknown territory. This is relatable to the Christian ideals included within the lyrics of this song. In the lyrics, Kanye explains that some of his behavior throughout his life has not been, “Christ-like.” When he was walking his own path he was struggling because he thought he could handle the unknown on his own without the help of his father. The song implies a connotation of his father being the holy figure in his life, and Kanye being the Christ-like figure.

The video features Kanye and his father in multiple off-road vehicles roaming Kanye’s ranch in Wyoming. The snowy winter background portrays a heavenly world. It is easy to see that Kanye and his father have a good relationship as they smile and enjoy doing burnouts in the snow together.

At the end of the song, white lettering on a blue background notifies the audience that it took Kanye, “42 years to realize that his dad was his best friend.” On a more personal note, the end of the letter implies that Kanye’s father thought it to be a great achievement for, “A Black Man,” to own 4,000 acres in Cody, Wyoming. All in all, Kanye West seems to be headed in a direction that no one ten years ago could have expected. The end product of faith and reasoning coming into question could really make audiences wonder about what kind of relationship they have with their own families.

West will also be playing in Los Angles this weekend at the Forum on November 10th.
