Beck Releases Subdued New Song “Dark Places”

Beck has released a new song from his forthcoming album Hyperspace, entitled “Dark Places,” which is one of seven tracks from the album produced by Pharrell Williams. Hyperspace will be Beck’s 14th studio album, and is set to be released on Capitol Records on November 22nd.

“Dark Places,” is also accompanied by a lyric video which shows the vintage car from the alnum cover on the outskirts of Los Angeles. with downtown Los Angeles laying in the background. The track has a more subdued electronic sound, with the calm synths mixing in well with the guitar chords and indie instrumental.

The performer spent much of his early childhood and youth growing up in Los Angeles, where he spent his days engaging in various eclectic music scenes, from hip hop and Latin music, to post-beat Jazz. His first big break came from the release of “Loser,” in the early 1990s, which was first played on several college radio stations.

This latest project follows up from two other Pharrell produced singles. including “Uneventful Days,” which is accompanied by Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) directed music video, and “Saw Lightning (Freestyle).” Beck has been a fan of the famed Neptunes producer for over two decades, and was excited to collaborate with him.

“I’ve been waiting for 20 years,” Beck began before continuing with, “this is very different from any situation I’ve made music in. There’s a very particular energy and things happen very fast. It’s completely open, so anything goes. Everything’s on, inspiration strikes, and everything happens incredibly fast. There’s not a lot of second guessing, which is great.”
