“Slo Bird Whistle (Peel Session)” previously limited released song from legendary IDM producer Aphex Twin, has officially debuted as part of the 30th anniversary Warp Records boxset WXAXRXP Sessions. This latest song was originally played on a 1995 Peel Radio Session, which will be included in its entirety on the boxset, and for a limited time on SoundCloud in 2015, under a different artist name.
This latest track features many signature Aphex Twin elements from that era, from its unique production style, unique synth progression, rhythmic drum beats and unique animal samples layered on the track. This session was recorded around the time of the release of the producer’s third album …I Care Because You Do, which featured one of the artist’s more popular tracks “Alberto Balsalm.”
Warp Records have also released a ten song sampler ahead of the boxset’s November 15th release. Numerous artists such as Flying Lotus, Boards of Canada, Oneohtrix Point Never, Bibio and Mount Kimbie are featured on the boxset, which spans nearly three decades. Many of these sessions were aired as Peel Sessions in the 1990s, but some sets such as Kelly Moran, Bibio, and Mount Kimbie’s sessions were taken from this summer’s WXAXRXP x NTS weekend radio takeover, which featured 100 hours of original music programming pulled from original mixes, documentaries, live performances, film and sessions from the whole Warp roster
A previously unreleased song from Boards of Canada, entitled “XYZ,” accompanied the boxset announcement showcasing the band burgeoning IDM and ambient sound. Check out our reviews of classic Wap Records artists such as Aphex Twin, Boards Of Canada, Flying Lotus and Oneohtrix Point Never.
