The Australian versions of the Download Festival, which are set to take place in Melbourne, and Sydney on March 20th and 21st respectively, have announced their 2020 lineups. My Chemical Romance will be headlining the shows, while Jimmy Eat World, Ministry, Lacuna Coil, Baroness, In Flames, In Hearts Wake and the Deftones will host performances.
The Melbourne edition will take place at the Melbourne Showgrounds, while the Sydney edition is set to take place at Parramatta Park. This event will be the only time My Chemical Romance, Clutch, Alestorm and Lacuna Coil are set to perform in the country next year.
These Australian shows mark two of the bands four scheduled performances next year, which include a stop in New Zealand, where they will be accompanied by Jimmy Eat World and an appearance at Download Fest Japan. The band recently announced their reunion a week ago, with their first performance scheduled to take place at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California.
The Deftones have teased some upcoming music at the Dia de los Deftones Festival earlier this year, which is slated to be released some time in 2020. In a recent interview, the band’s frontman Chino Moreno stated: ” “we’ve been working on our record for about a year now. We’re not doing that thing where we go in and lock ourselves in a room until it’s done; we are kind of enjoying our time making it.”
Ministry recently unveiled a new visual history book entitled Prescripture, which will host a special acoustic recording of their 1980s classic “(Every Day Is) Halloween.”
UPDATE (3/14): Following My Chemical Romance’s cancellation of its appearance at Download Festival Australia, the festival has in turn cancelled its 2020 festival. Organizers released statement on the festival’s website, stating “As we are unable to deliver a complete line-up to meet the standard that Download fans both expect and deserve, we have very reluctantly made the decision to cancel Download Australia 2020.”
