Lana Del Rey has been continuing to perform covers throughout her recent Norman Fucking Rockwell tour, which has included some high profile guests. Last night during her performance at Denver’s Bellco Theatre the singer brought out Ben Gibbard, the frontman for Death Cab for Cutie, to cover the band’s classic “I Will Follow You Into The Dark,” featured on their 2005 album Plans. She then brought out up and coming singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin for a performance of “Don’t Know How To Keep Loving You” featured on Jacklin’s album Crushing.
Gibbard and Lana Del Rey performed a duet of the song, where they traded the lead vocal duties, while they sang together during the song’s choruses. Both artists were backed by Gibbard’s acoustic guitar, which played the song’s iconic acoustic chords.
During Jacklin’s performance, Lana Del Rey took a more laidback approach, having the singer perform the entire song while she performed the track’s harmonies. This was also stripped down, and featured the two performing without a backing band, with Jacklin performing on electric guitar.
Lana Del Rey has been performing covers throughout her tour, and in the studio as well in the recent months. She performed a cover of Joni Mitchell’s “For Free,” during performance in Seattle, and in the studio alongside Weyes Blood and Zella Day. This track originally appeared on Mitchell’s 1970 album release Ladies Of The Canyon.
During a performance in Berkeley, California the performer covered Bob Dylan’s classic “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright” alongside 1960s folk legend Joan Baez. Earlier in the year she also performed alongside Leonard Cohen’s son Adam Cohen, to cover his father’s classic “Chelsea Hotel No. 2” at Jones Beach Theater.
